Welcome to Town Farm Open Studio, the home and studio of Christine Bass which she opens to the public once a year. In 2010 there are nine artists exhibiting:

James Sansome sculpts steel birds which soar and which are inspired by the birds of the Chilterns countryside.
Christine Bass paints vibrant, contemporary landscapes and still lifes, many of which are also available as giclee prints and cards.
Mick Waterhouse is a wood carver, known for his traditional 'Green Men'.
Julia Parkes creates contemporary jewellery in silver and resin.
Kirsteen Holuj is a sculptor working in ceramics and metal.
Kate Wilkinson produces striking, innovative jewellery.
Susan Erskine-Jones is a landscape and seascape painter and print-maker.
Sue Richardson is a textile artist producing framed collages and decorative items for the home.
David Scott is a blacksmith forging sculptural ironwork which is both practical and decorative.

This is 6 Town Farm which is in a courtyard of converted farm buildings and barns, just off High Street, the main road through Cheddington.

Huge thanks to ALL of you who supported Town Farm Open Studio in November 2009. It was a wonderful community event visited by great numbers of people from nearby villages and towns, as well as neighbours, family and friends.

We were very grateful for the support of many local newsletters and for the extensive coverage in the local press with articles and photos in the Bucks Herald, Hemel Gazette (twice!) and Leighton Buzzard Observer.

In exchange for mulled wine, mince pies and Christmas cake, people were extremely generous in donating to our chosen charity. We raised £400 for Iain Rennie Hospice at Home, a Tring-based charity doing brilliant work providing specialist care to patients (and their families) in their own homes.

THANKS TO ALL WHO CONTRIBUTED OR WHO HELPED IN ANY WAY TO MAKE THE SHOW SUCH A SUCCESS!

Welcome to Town Farm Open Studio, the home and studio of Christine Bass, painter of local landscapes and floral still lifes. For this exhibition, Christine is joined by seven artist friends. Susan Erskine-Jones is a landscape painter and print-maker. Kirsteen Holuj is a sculptor working in ceramics and metal, producing large garden sculptures, as well as smaller indoor pieces. Julia Parkes creates contemporary jewellery in silver and resin. Sue Richardson is a textile artist producing framed collages and decorative items for the home. James Sansome's steel garden sculptures are inspired by the birds of the Chilterns countryside. Mick Waterhouse is a wood carver, known for his traditional 'Green Men'. Kate Wilkinson produces striking, innovative jewellery.

Julia Parkes

Julia’s collection is inspired by the idea of contained movement represented by the plated curved wires encapsulated in softly matted resin. The matt silver shapes are simple, wearable and create a strong but subtle statement. Some pieces are reversible so can be worn showing colour or metal.

Sue Richardson

A love of pattern, colour, texture and quirky combinations of all three, form the basis of Sue's textile art. Vintage prints, silks, voiles and paper are layered, bonded and stitched to create a backdrop for embellishment. Detail and decoration play significant roles in all aspects of her work.

James Sansome

James draws inspiration from the Chiltern countryside in which his workshop is situated. Each piece of work is individually crafted and is unique. All of his designs are as bold as they are simple. Hisl sculptures can be left to weather naturally and, after time, turn a fantastic soft orange colour.

Susan is inspired by the landscapes around her but is still influenced by early impressions and memories of the open spaces, the coast and the clear light of the South African Cape where she spent her earlier years. Her paintings strongly convey the 'atmosphere' of a landscape.

Kate Wilkinson

Kate’s designs are joyous and celebratory. She draws on many visual sources: renaissance clothing, African tribal jewellery, Japanese printed textiles, twenties and thirties European fashion drawings, the flower paintings of Georgia O’Keefe. She uses a wide range of materials: tin-plate embossed with gold or silver leaf and finished with enamel; silver curved tubing; curled dyed nylon wire; feathers; velvet flowers; Swarovski glass crystals; sequins; buttons;

rubber; felt.

Mick Waterhouse

Mick’s carvings are influenced by a love of medieval sculpture in churches and a particular obsession with the Green Man. His figure sculptures revel in movement, fecundity and life. He uses local timbers such as lime, yew, walnut and especially oak. He avoids highly polished finishes, preferring to leave the tool marks, the signs of the woodcarver’s effort.

Christine Bass

Christine’s contemporary paintings are highly decorative. Her work is characterized by a strong sense of form and the use of vibrant colour, influenced by a childhood in the Caribbean.

She uses tissue to loosely block in areas of colour, relishing the unexpected shapes which emerge from torn edges and overlapping areas. The original composition is then brought back into focus by applying layers of acrylic paint.
